Watch this Space - Audio-Visual Tape-Slide
Tape-slide is a time/lens-based medium combining projected photographic images, graphics and text with speech, music and sounds, even sculpture and live performance. It is therefore essentially a mixed or multimedia form and furthermore has the potential of interacting with the environment in which it is experienced. Its applications range from the avant-garde gallery installation to the camera-club travelogue, from the corporate presentation to the ambient techno rave.
In the light of more recent developments in video, digital imaging and multimedia it is tempting to dismiss tape-slide as out-moded and old-fashioned. However it remains a highly engaging medium, offering images of a size and quality as yet unmatched by video and digital technology. Moreover, for artists and critical media practitioners, tape-slide offers a powerful means of exploiting the tensions which arise from placing the still photographic image within a time-based context.
On this site you will find a number of examples from my own audio-visual tape-slide works. See above and click here to view an example of the way in which the graphic-matching technique, derived from cine-montage, can be used to drive the still images in a time-based context.
I am in the process of catalogueing organisations which provide tape-slide facilities and workshops on an affordable basis for artists and independent practitioners. If you have any information, enquiries or comments regarding audio-visual tape-slide you can contact me using the form on the contacts and links page.
